Year 9 and 10
The Year 9 and 10 Music classes are based on the IGCSE and ABRSM programs. Their studies expand on their knowledge of the Middle School course, enabling them to focus on 'World Music'. They will be taught to analyze form, structure and dynamics of music from different cultures and study the development of word music by looking at the lives and works of a variety of composers. They create original music, and perform on stage in a solo as well as in an ensemble.
Year 11 and 12
Students of the senior Music studies at International School Suva have the opportunity to explore Music from a variety of periods and parts of the world, from Classical to modern music. Students investigate all the elements comparing and contrasting different cultural performances. Students focus on composing their own original pieces and share them with different groups within the community.
During their senior years of study, all Music students partake in an Arts trip to Sydney Australia, where they are exposed to a variety of performances, workshops and venues, which inspire and encourage their engagement, enhancing their involvement in the study.
Exposing students to a variety of opportunities to showcase their talent is at the forefront of the ISS Arts Department. Every year ISS Music students have the opportunity to audition and take part in Fiji schools Music band competition called Plugged In.
Students of all years are encouraged to join the school production band, where they experience collaboration with other aspects of the Arts and working as team.
Towards the end of every year, ISS students have the opportunity to perform their instruments in a Music concert, usually hosted in the ISS Multipurpose Hall. The ISS community is openly invited to watch the students perform.
